Portugal: Decree-Law no. 53/2023 of 3 July regulates the Decent Work Agenda

  • On 3 July 2023, Decree-Law no. 53/2023 which regulates de Decent Work Agenda was published in the Official Gazette. 
  • Thee Decent Work Agenda, approved by Law no. 13/2023 of 3 April 2023,  provides measures to improve working conditions and the conciliation of employees' professional and family lives.
  • The Decree entered into force on 6 July 2023 and takes effect retroactively since 1 May 2023.

HanmiGlobal announced a new welfare policy

  • South Korean construction management firm HanmiGlobal announced a new welfare policy which entails additional incentives for all workers expecting a child.
  • The company’s policy is aimed to boost Korean fertility rate, which is the world lowest since 2013.

Slovakia: Labour Code Amendment 2022

  • On 4 October 2022, the Slovak parliament adopted an amendment to the Labour Code (the "Amendment") effective from 1 November 2022.
  • It mainly aims to implement two EU directives: No. 2019/1152 on transparent and predictable working conditions in the EU and No. 2019/1158 on work-life balance for parents and carers.

United Arab Emirates: new Labour Law coming into force on 2 February 2022

  • President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has issued the Federal Decree - Law No.33 of 2021 - on the regulation of labour relations in the private sector.
  • It repeals Federal Labour Law No. 8 of 1980 and will take effect from 2 February 2022.

Colombia: New rules on paternity leave and remote work

  • On 10 August 2021, Colombia issued Law n. 2141, establishing the paternity protection against dismissal and amending Article 239 and 240 of the Colombian Labour Code.
  • Law 2121, enacted on 3 August 2021, is the first Law in Colombia regarding remote work.
