We stand for values: a new alliance of businesses for diversity, openness and tolerance

  • On 7 May 2024, a coalition of over 30 German companies launched the "We Stand for Values" initiative.
  • This alliance, comprising DAX companies, family-owned businesses, SMEs, and start-ups, stands united in promoting the values of diversity, openness, and tolerance. It is supported by the  Federation of German Industries (BDI) and the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB).

The initiative underscores the critical role of the EU in ensuring prosperity and job creation across Europe. In their first joint campaign, the companies call upon their combined 1.7 million employees to actively participate in the upcoming European elections, highlighting the importance of European unity for economic stability and growth.

Member companies deeply engage with their employees through a variety of activities, including internal discussion forums, workshops on diversity and inclusion, town hall meetings to address concerns, and informational events to educate about the economic benefits of diversity and inclusion. These activities aim to foster a culture of dialogue and mutual respect within the workplace.

The initiative's member companies firmly believe in the importance of diversity and intercultural cooperation. They recognize that innovation and economic success thrive in environments where diverse perspectives are freely exchanged. The alliance asserts that exclusion and isolation threaten entrepreneurial freedom and prosperity, whereas a diverse and inclusive workforce is essential for maintaining competitiveness and fostering innovation.

The initiative aims to promote these values and create a more inclusive and innovative business environment, attract investment, and enhance Germany's economic competitiveness.

Siegfried Russwurm, President of the Federation of German Industries (BDI), commented in the press release: "An open, liberal society and the strength of a united Europe are key pillars of Germany's economic success and the prosperity of its citizens. Through dialogue in the workplace, we aim to raise awareness of the values on which our country’s performance is based."
