Monoprix signed an agreement on night work during Olympic games

  • Monoprix, a leading retail chain in France, recently signed an exceptional night work agreement to address the challenges posed by the upcoming 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris.
  • The agreement, signed on 17 June 2024, with key trade unions CFDT, CFE-CGC, and CGT, will be effective from 15 July 15 to 16 September 2024. This period covers the time from the Olympic torch relay until the anticipated end of dismantling the sporting installations.

The primary reason for this agreement is the expected surge in activities and visitors during the Olympics, which necessitates adjustments in operational hours to ensure the smooth running of Monoprix stores. This includes replenishing stores outside regular opening hours to maintain safety and compliance with city regulations. Consequently, night work from 3 AM to 5 AM has been deemed necessary for stores in areas affected by the Olympic events.

The agreement emphasises the importance of voluntary participation, ensuring that no employee is compelled to work during the designated night hours of 3 AM to 5 AM. Employees who work these hours will formalise their consent through a signed volunteer form, providing a clear record of their willingness. Additionally, they are granted the flexibility to retract their consent with a 15-day notice period, which can be shortened to 7 days in cases of significant personal changes, ensuring that individual circumstances are adequately accommodated.

In recognition of the unique demands of night work, it has established a generous compensation package. Employees working the specified night hours will receive a 50% pay increase, reflecting the company's acknowledgment of the challenges associated with these shifts. Furthermore, to ensure that employees are well-rested, additional compensatory rest days will be provided proportionate to the hours worked during the night shifts. For middle managers and executives, specific provisions include daily allowances of €25 and €30, respectively, offering further financial incentives for those in leadership roles.

The Company has also committed to extensive support measures. This includes a 70% reimbursement for public transportation costs, easing the financial burden on employees commuting at unconventional hours. The company will cover VTC (ride-hailing) expenses when public transport is unavailable, ensuring all employees have reliable and safe transportation options. Additionally, Monoprix will facilitate parking arrangements for employees driving to work and provide up to €600 in support for childcare or dependent care, helping employees balance their professional and personal responsibilities.

Monoprix is dedicated to ensuring that there is no discrimination in job assignments, promotions, or access to training opportunities based on gender. Special training modules focusing on night work and safety will be made available to all employees, fostering a well-informed and prepared workforce.
